Barcelos was the municipality in the Minho districts that saw the biggest increase in the construction of new homes last year.

According to this week’s edition of the Barcelos Popular newspaper, the municipality of Barcelos saw the birth of 233 more houses than in 2022, an increase of 70 per cent and the highest of the 24 municipalities in Minho. In other words, 911 new homes were built in the municipality (339 in 2022 and 572 in 2023).

However, the newspaper notes that most of these dwellings are aimed at “wealthy families”, while for families with less economic power there will only be new developments in 2025, with cheaper but lower quality construction planned.

According to idealista/data, the price of a square metre in Barcelos has risen consistently. In October 2019, the average price per square metre was €838. But by August 2024, it had already reached €1363 per square metre.
